US Finds Serious Flaws in Burma's Draft Constitution美国国务院批评缅甸新宪法草案 The U.S. State Department said Thursday Burma's new draft constitution provides little hope for real change in the military-ruled Southeast Asian country. To be voted on in a May 10 referendum, the draft would leave major power in the hands of the military. The ed States was an harsh critic of the Burmese constitution-writing process because it largely excluded the political opposition. Now, the State Department says the draft produced by the country's long-running national convention provides scant hopes for those looking for democratic change. Published Wednesday, the nearly-200-page constitutional draft would reserve one-quarter of the seats in both houses of parliament for military officers, and give the country's military chief the right to suspend the constitution at any time. Another clause bars anyone who has been married to a foreign national from holding political office, a provision that appears tailor-made to exclude opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi, once married to a British national. At a news briefing, State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said U.S. officials have made only a preliminary analysis of the draft but said a first ing indicates some issues of serious concern. It, at first glance, would appear intended only to perpetuate the rule of the existing military junta in Burma," he said. "It does not provide for the kind of open, serious and sustained dialogue with the democratic opposition forces in Burma that we as well as other members of the international community have called for, and that for example Aung San Suu Kyi has called for." So at first glance this draft constitution that the regime intends to put to a vote does not give much hope to those who are looking for real democratic change in Burma," he added."一看宪法草案就知道,缅甸当局想要让全民公决的这项宪法草案不要为那些希望缅甸发生真正的民主变革的人提供多少希望。”Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, the NLD, won national elections in 1990 but was barred from taking power. The Nobel Peace Laureate has been under detention most of the time since then. In comments Wednesday, President Bush said he was disappointed with political progress made in Burma, and said the military authorities need to understand that they should not fear their own people. The NLD walked out of the 14-year-long national convention in 1995 because of restrictive rules and was later expelled altogether. It has urged Burmese to vote against the draft on May 10. The military government Thursday accused the NLD of taking directives from unnamed foreign embassies which it claimed were trying to destabilize the country. Asked about the charge of foreign meddling, State Department Spokesman McCormack called it a "canard." He said Aung San Suu Kyi and others pushing for democratic change are Burmese patriots who had been working for a better future for the country long before the international spotlight became focused on them. 200804/34268。

Did you know that there is one simple thing you can do at the beginning of any relationship to set it up for a long-term success, but most of us are afraid to do it? Hi! I'm Marie Forleo, life coach and author, and I'm gonna give you this one simple tip that's gonna set you up on the right path for any relationship in your life. Here it is. Most of us tend to not communicate honestly. Now I know this doesn't sound like a revolutionary idea, but it comes down to the small things. Here's what I mean.Have you ever been on a date and the guy always shows up late or there is something that he does that really doesn't work for you, but you're kind of afraid to say, coz you think he's not gonna like you or he won't ask you on a second date? No, no, no. What you wanna do is you wanna communicate what's happening for you, what's working for you, what's not, and you gotta start from the get-go. Here's why. When you don't communicate, things that aren't working for you or things that really aggravate you and kind of get you pissed off. What happens is you build up resentment. That resentment builds up overtime and before you know it you're gonna start picking fights. You are not gonna know why; he is not gonna know why. And things are gonna get really bumpy really fast. What happens when you practice communicating and speaking honestly when things aren't working is that when the relationship gets a little further and things are to get bumpy, it's gonna be so easy for you to smooth it out and you guys are gonna have a great relationship moving forward. And then of course if things aren't gonna work out for you guys, it's not gonna be hard to say it and you are gonna spend less time in a relationship that's not working. So you can move on to one that does.If you wanna learn more on how to be a great communicator and more helpful tips on dating and relationships, do me a favor, check out makeeverymanwantyou.com. It's an excellent book that I just wrote and it's gonna help you out so much in all your relationships. Thanks for clicking on imag. Grizzly bears once roamed much of the ed States. But two centuries of hunting and habitat loss have devastated their numbers. Today, less than 1,200 live in the Lower 48. If there is a last remaining stronghold for the North American Grizzly, it is in Alaska where estimated 32,000 grizzlies can be found.Alaska boasts a wide range of habitat in which the grizzly can thrive, from rich coastal areas to barren arctic tundra. Alaska's grizzlies can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and can consume as much as 35 pounds of food in a day. They eat just about anything in sight from flowers to whale carcasses. It's their very size that gives grizzlies an aura of invincibility, and in Alaska, it's also what makes them a valuable commodity. As Joel discovers in downtown Anchorage, the bear business is booming. At Knight's Taxidermy, Russell Knight turns over more than 200 bear rugs and mounts a year.We offer you the mounting services or expediting services. Whatever the client wants us to do, we are glad to do it.How many bears they think there are in Alaska and how many are taken every year, do you know?Roughly between 1,000 and 1,500 are taken a year. But since bears are thriving in Alaska, some biologists believe that taking 1,500 bears a year is sustainable. So there's plenty of bears in Alaska, right?Plenty of bears in Alaska.Making a bear into a rug takes time. Russell's clients can expect to wait up to a year for their merchandise. So this is the skull. And he's, he's skinned the skull out.So now he's, he's doing the detail work. He's split the lips, turning the nose inside out. And now he's going to turn the ears inside out. They put them over a beam and they're fleshing the fat and meat off skin so that it can dry properly. He had to have a bear sit in salt for 3 or 4 days. (OK). And then after the like the 4th day, if everything is looking good, then we hang them up.And you kind of look (yeah) and see that the skin is turning white, which is a, the good sign that it's drying proper. And once the head is mounted, then we gotta bring it back to the original size. We have to rehydrate the skin in water, repair all the holes and then he stretches it for size to get the maximum amount of size out of skin. They want big? They want... everybody wants the biggest thing in it.So we've got a special clay that dries very hard. And, and, and once the, the clay is put on and roughed into shape, then we can come back and mold it and put it on a little details and the creases and we can still shape and move the eyes around and, and get the expression that we want.We use plastic teeth and fake tongues. That's a black bear tongue, grizzly bear tongue. Now these would be ... this would be a bear eye.I'm... I'm a wildlife artist. I work with wildlife, I work with all.... Taxidermy really is an art.tundra: (n.) It was much better than I thought it would be. It would be a bit worried about the way they portray Japan and the geishas in general. But it was pretty well done, pretty authentic, there you couldn't hear a pin drop in the theatre. (What?)They've really kept the audience's time. David, there is a little bit of controversy surrounding this film, and why don't you lay it around forth who is upset about this film and why?Well, some of the Japanese are upset, only because their own actresses were not used. But the reason for that is A, there weren't enough powerful actresses who would fit the role, who could also speak English enough that would be easy to understand. And that, you know,I mean that's just a fact, so there is nothing you can do about that. The other issue is that some of the Chinese people who are somewhat nationalistic in nature, are upset that...that Chinese actresses would cross over to the Japanese side(Yeah.) and participate in such a Japanese film. And in a way, you know, right now there's a lot of political fiction, but in a way, the movie did, uh, beautify the Geishas to the extent that all the men were decent people, everybody was kind to each other basically. But in reality, I mean, you had er... during the war, the comfort women issue, which of course is not mentioned, even though there are many war scenes. There is a war's period during the movie, of course that's not even mentioned. And none of the men were particularly ,ur,what you would call crude or mean.(Yeah. Really.) So when you go back into history, especially if you're a Chinese or Korean rather from other parts of Asia, people have such vivid memories of Japanese activities during the war(Yeah.) that they might find the movie yield a little bit too soft, in those areas.Well, David let me ask you one last question, if you're an American audience, this is... this is coming from an American book by an American author. I would think it is being made by an American director primarily, principally for the American film going audience. How much should we care about the... this controversy? I would say that there is nothing to be concerned about(yeah.) when you think about the American audience, they will love it, they will like it. It's epic Oscar type of movie, and the historical era during the war, I don't think will be issues, not really that well known. (right)The Geisha world itself is such a non-known entity to Americans, they'll find it very enticing and mysterious, you know. For Japanese, of course, it's no bother really,so, it is a different approach to the movie, but I think I should say it's really made for the American audience. And I don't think they'll have any problem with the fact that Chinese acters are playing it. As a matter of fact, no one in the theatre really seemed that was unnatural after about five minutes and everybody speaks English.(Yeah.) And half of them being Chinese, after a while, it really made absolutely no difference at all, (ok)overall enjoyment of the movie. 200807/45201。

Al-Sadr supporters were quick to respond that the prime minister has no constitutional power to interfere with elections. They said new language in a draft election bill that would ban parties that operate militias from fielding candidates is a direct attempt to sideline al-Sadr. Iraqi political expert and professor Haidar Saaid said one of the main problems facing Iraq today is that militias continue to operate independently of the government and sometimes directly against it. He said all militias, including the Mahdi Army, must disband. There are groups fighting outside the government that are influencing people's freedom and movement, said Haidar. Iraqi forces raided the cleric's stronghold Sunday in the Baghdad area of Sadr City.
